Everyone is welcome to come along and participate in our monthly walk up sessions. The entry charge per person is only $5.00. As part of our contract with the Irish Club we must ask that you join up with the Irish Club. It is inexpensive and since they provide us the venue free of charge certainly quite a reasonable request.
You don't need to be a professional and don't need to be in a band, we cater for all levels in a friendly, non judging environment.
We have a PA, microphones etc. If you play an instrument you will generally need to bring that along.
The concerts are held each month at the Irish Club at Weston. They have a great bar and restaurant too.
Walk up concerts are held most months. They commence at 1:30pm and go until 4:30pm. Generally they are held on the 1st Sunday of the month. Please be there early if you want to get your name up on the whiteboard to play.
Check out our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/CMACanberra for the latest news about coming walk ups and guest artists.
REMEMBER the 4 simple guidelines if you wish to perform:
1) Get there before 1:30pm to get your name on the whiteboard. We want everyone to have a fair go.
2) Make sure your instruments are tuned, if it has a battery in it, make sure it's not flat !, and that you have any music charts available if you might end up having backing muso's playing ... (Sochsie and Mike Morrissey are general available to help out playing). This will save on wasted time and we want everyone to have a fair go.
3) Be ready to go on stage BEFORE it's your turn. Your performance time includes set up and getting off stage. The longer you take, the less time you have. The MC or stage manager shouldn't have to chase you. We want everyone to have a fair go.
4) Please consider that if you are part of a duo/trio you might want to restrict your performance to that group. If the number of performers is low, perhaps then discuss with Jeremy (the President) or Bev (all round nice person coordinating the Whiteboard) whether you can do a solo performance as well. We want everyone to have a fair go.
Anyway, the point is to have fun, but at the same time we want to entertain those who have come along to watch. Not every member is a performer. Please keep that in mind.
